Psychiatrist Robin Cameron seems on the verge of success with an experimental program that uses a magnetic helmet to trigger, then modify, old angers that cause criminal behavior. She has been working with a promising candidate for behavior modification, an atypical serial killer named Justin Gray. His murders of high school girls involved mixed motivation—he didn't torture them or sexually molest them, and he has to drink to deal with death. Another very reluctant subject of her experimental treatment is LAPD Sergeant Alan Brand, who unwittingly admits to a cold‑blooded killing while under Robin’s care. When Gray escapes and Robin’s teenage daughter, Megan, is kidnapped, Robin does not know whom to accuse—or whether there is something even darker, nastier, and more complicated afoot. The story takes place over a period of only two days, and the suspense does not let up until the last page.

You almost wind up rooting for serial killer Justin Gray in this tightly wound thriller. I don't want to reveal more, but the story revolves around a psychiatrist (Robin) and her work with psychopaths, trying to change them through an innovative method she's developed. Her daughter Meg is a typical bratty teenager who gets herself involved with the wrong people. While I figured out one of the mysteries long before the end of the book, I was surprised by a couple of other developments and plot twists. The action moves right along and I stayed up late one night in order to see how the book ended, because this is another of those books in which you aren't sure who will live, who will die, and who will get caught. Are the bad guys the good guys? Are the good guys the bad guys? Read this book to find out. You won't be disappointed.Product details

In Dark Places eBook Michael Prescott Reviews
Excellent story, quite different from most mysteries. There're surprises all through the book and the ending was completely unexpected. I would highly recommend this work.
Couldn't finish it. It was just so implausible. The language was way over the top for profanity. Some is okay but this . .. ? Really!
Thought it was more complicated than necessary. Had a hard time keeping my attention .plodded along and the end was better than the beginning. That being said I still like Michael Prescott books.
Enjoyed reading this book- Twists and turns till the end. This author has a great handle on excitement, way to go, Michael Prescott!
Psychiatric thriller where the doctor thinks she can help prisoners, Not! Great writing but a sad tale far police in the trust department.
I didn't like this book. The plot was pretty ridiculous, and there were obvious mistakes made. For example, in one chapter the character hot wired a car, and in a subsequent chapter, left the keys in the same car for a quick get away. Not very well edited. I hated that I wasted my time reading this book.
This is the tenth book by Michael Prescott that I've read, and it's pretty much what I expect from this author. A quick paced thriller that held my interest from the beginning right up until the end. There weren't any likable characters here, but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story. I changed my mind on who the villain was several times, it definitely kept me guessing.
